Huntingfield Pony & Riding Club held it's first rally on the 15th May 1961 and is one of the foundation members of Pony Club Tasmania. The original grounds were located on Mr. Tom Pearsall's property adjoining Huntingfield House, Channel Highway, Kingston. In 1981, we moved to our current location at Howden.
Being one of the largest clubs in the State, we currently have around 75 members, including Junior, Senior and, whilst pony club is primarily a youth movement, we also have Adult Riding members.
Huntingfield, as is the case with all Pony Clubs, is run by a committee of volunteers, under the auspices of Pony Club Tasmania, guided by the Pony Club Tasmania Handbook.
All Tasmanian Pony Clubs are run under the auspices of Pony Club Tasmania (PCT). There are three zones - North West, Northern and Southern zones.
The aims of Pony Club are:
To encourage young people to ride and learn to enjoy all kinds of sport concerned with horses and riding;
To provide instruction in riding and horsemastership and to instil in members the proper care of their animals; and
To promote the ideals of sportsmanship, citizenship and loyalty, thereby cultivating strength of character and self discipline.
Pony Club membership provides riders with access to a range of events across Tasmania, as well as opportunities to represent your State in interstate Pony Club competitions. The Pony Club Syllabus of Instruction is imbedded in pony club, ensuring all riders are educated in all aspects of horse care, welfare and riding.
